The Queen City’s professional orchestra opened its 2013-2014 Classics Series with a concert that paid tribute to centennial composer Benjamin Britten with one of his most famous works. It also welcomed a young Czech pianist who earned special mention at the 13th Van Cliburn International piano competition for music by Liszt. The second half of the concert program was devoted to Holst’s enduringly popular evocation of the astrological properties of the solar system.
