Summer in the Carolinas & "A Salon Evening in Vienna"

appsummer_100Music from Summer, 2011, warms the winter chill on this edition of Carolina Live. The Broyhill Chamber ensemble, resident group at An Appalachian Summer Festival in Boone, offers up crack performances of challenging repertory from Prokofiev, Janacek and Smetana, as well as a beloved quintet by Schumann. The program then ventures over to Winston-Salem for the Carolina Summer Music Festival, and excerpts from a concert recreating “A Salon Evening in Vienna,” with chamber arrangements by Arnold Schoenberg of much-loved works by Debussy and the “Waltz King,” Johann Strauss, Jr.
